Madison red bike program

Bike sharing is a great way to have the easy of bicycle use, without having to maintain and keep track of a personal bicycle. Budget Bicycle Center runs a long-term bike rental program. You put down a deposit or credit card imprint, which is returned when the bike and lock is returned making the total cost FREE!

Bikes are serviced for free during the summer by Budget Bicycle Center. The only maintenance required of the rider is a weekly tire pressure check. This is a popular program, so bikes are checked out on a first come, first served basis. So, to stop wasting people's donations, and our labor to fix, paint and license each bicycle, we decided that the deposit system was the way to go. The Red Bikes for the Badgers!

They are available from late Spring through the end of November because we need several months to tune up the now bicycle fleet, and so that they are not destroyed by the moisture and snow plows of winter! What are they? When are they available?

How do I get one? What if I get a flat? Freshly painted Red Bikes drying on a sunny May afternoon. Budget Bicycle Center maintains a fleet bicycles as a public service to residents, students and visitors of Madison, WI. A credit card is required to check out a bike and lock. The cost is completely free when the bike is returned. All Red Bikes must be returned by the end of the season, typically set near the end of November.
