Rocks program

S ymposia in other countries are over the top with pageantry. P art of the charm of Bergen Rocks that has come to be recognized by sculptors around the world is that, by and large, I organize and fund the event myself.

We have a gas singing songs around the campfire and hiking down to the nearby river to wade and swim. Bergen Rocks is truly a grass roots event, the only artist sponsored monumental stone sculpture symposium in the world!!

Through my association with friends in the Atti2ude Club a worldwide group of artists, arts administrators and arts supporters I have came to realize that the arts can provide significant social and economic benefits. I hope to build awareness of this in the area around my home and so I when I started this project I developed a set of objectives that would to make that to happen.

Our Programs are Powered by. Program data shows students who go through these programs go on to find employment at significantly higher levels than the general population of those with intellectual disabilities, Weir said.

Parents have been a driving force in the creation of such programs, but Weir said in the early days of such programs, it often came down to having one committed person on campus who knocked on doors and worked to persuade officials of their value. Arnhold, who retired in , said the program was launched at no cost to Slippery Rock.

It quickly became beloved among Slippery Rock students who participated as life coaches and mentors as well as among the students who enrolled in Rock Life.

He partnered with the students to ensure they participated in the fitness program. They would go to the gym together and participate in intramural sports. In the beginning, she was very shy and not very communicative. Just as significant, he said, they have given him new perspectives on working with individuals with disabilities. He was nonverbal and on the autism spectrum, but he went on to get a computer science degree.

Ammons said she has struggled with coursework but hopes to pull an A in hospitality and management, the one course she took for credit last semester. This spring, in addition to classroom work, she will tackle a yet-to-be-determined job — one of the requirements for Rock Life participants. The nonprofit includes two gallon fish tanks with tilapia. Waste product from the fish is turned into nitrates.

The plants clean it up, and it is pumped back into fish tanks.
